kirivehera

‘‘Kirivehera’ and ‘Kataragama Devalaye’ two places of worship of importance to both Buddhists and Hindus alike and are situated in close proximity to each other will be illuminated for the benefit of devotees from 3rd July to 18th July. Situated in the deep south of Sri Lanka the Kirivehera is venerated by Buddhists and is believed to have been built in commemoration of the Buddha’s third visit to Sri Lanka and the sermon delivered there. The Kataragama Devalaya was built by King Dutugemunu and is the home to a host of Hindu gods worshipped both by Hindus and Buddhists. The illuminations are an act of devotion by Sri Lankan entrepreneur Ms Amarani Wijewardena, Chairperson of Swadeshi Industrial Works.
