Asian Elephants And Sri Lanka Culture at Smithsonian National Zoo in Usa

The Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC joined the Sri Lankan Embassy on 17th November, to celebrate the Conservation of the Asian Elephant and Sri Lankan culture in a day filled with exciting activities. Dr John Berry, Director of the Zoo, speaking on the occasion said that the association between Smithsonian Scientists and Sri Lanka, dates back to the 1960’s and cited Sri Lanka as a country leading the way in elephant conservation.

HE Bernard Goonetilleke, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador, in turn spoke of the goodwill between the Smithsonian National Zoo and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, which paved the way for the joint celebration of culture and nature - an opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka’s myriad attractions, as a delightful destination for travellers, with diverse interests.
