Arugambay Showcases Sri Lanka As aResponsible Tourism Destination……….

Classed among the top ten surfing destinations in the world, Arugambay, a delightful village, unspoilt by the advent of tourism and the many visitors that seek out the destination was highly commended at the World Travel Market Awards function held early this month in London. This cosy village, placed on the north eastern coast of Sri Lanka, has with sheer determination and grit, over come many an obstacle including the Asian Tsunami of 2004 and rebuilt their lives and once again become a much sought after tourist destination.

An example of peaceful coexistence, the village is home to Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities. The main livelihood of the villagers is tourism. Rugged village surroundings bordered by jungle land where elephants roam, birds abound and the sea is unimaginably captivating. Arugambay remains untouched by developers and has only hotels with basic comforts, adding to its endearing charm and earning them the reward of the ‘Highly commended Best Destination Award’.
